Obesity increases risk of death in prostate cancer survivors

May 2020

A report published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology has reported that prostate cancer survivors who are obese have an increased risk of death, both from direct weight-related conditions such as cardio-vascular disease, and from an increased risk of prostate cancer.

So men diagnosed with prostate cancer should aim to reduce their weight so that their BMI is closer to a healthy normal.

Prostate death rates drop by 10% at treatments improve

April 2020

The death rate from prostate cancer is expected to fall by nearly 10 per cent in the UK this year as better diagnosis and treatment contribute to a reduction in nearly every country in the European Union.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men with about one in eight men in the UK getting the disease in his lifetime, equating to about 48,000 men having it diagnosed each year.

However, researchers at the University of Milan have found that there has been a marked improvement in survival rates across the UK and the EU as doctors adopt up-to-date surgery and radiotherapy techniques together with a newer form of androgen deprivation therapy, a common hormone treatment for prostate cancer.
